UC Berkeley Research
Organization Description
One of a large network of Californian Universities in the UC network. The most relevant part of the university to our field is the bioengineering department and the home of the Conboy Lab. This department focuses on establishing new paradigms in multi-tissue stem cell aging, rejuvenation and regulation by conserved morphogenic signaling pathways. One of their goals is to define pharmacology for enhancing maintenance and repair of adult tissues in vivo. The Conboy lab pioneered the heterochronic parabiosis and blood apheresis studies that have established that the process of aging is reversible through the modulation of circulating blood factors.
